With the attractions of Cuyahoga National Park and the Peninsula and Quarry Trail bike path, this is a popular day trip destination for residents of Northeast Ohio. Peninsula was created as a 'seaport town' in 1827, with the opening of the Ohio Canal - introducing the Western Reserve to eastern trade. This small town lies on the Buckeye Trail – a 1,444 mile trail system that loops throughout Ohio. Over 20 structures in Peninsula are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Boston Mills/Brandywine Ski Resort in Peninsula is one of the few skiing facilities in Ohio. Peninsula’s name is derived from the fact that the village is centered on the land where the Cuyahoga River makes a sharp bend to form a peninsula. |
