Put-in-Bay is a small town located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. The short ferry ride to this island community is worth the wait (every 30 minutes in summer). The village is a popular summer resort and recreational destination. Ferry service connects it with Catawba Island, Kelleys Island, Port Clinton, and Sandusky, Ohio. Put-in-Bay is the site of Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial commemorating Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's September 10, 1813 naval victory over British ships in the War of 1812. Put-in-Bay’s Beer Barrel Saloon lays claim as the World’s Longest Bar. If only they could guarantee the shortest hangover. Historians believe that the peculiar name of this small town originates from some early maps of South Bass Island that showed the harbor being named Pudding Bay, probably because it was shaped like a pudding sack. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
