Jacksonville, Oregon

Jacksonville is another example of an 1800's western mining town where modern day tourists benefit from architecture built with the wealth of minerals long since depleted. The historic small town of Jacksonville lies at the entrance to the Applegate Valley Wine Country. It is one of the few towns in the U.S. to be awarded as a National Historic Landmark. Trolley tour buses are available for visitors each day throughout summer. Annual festivals include the Quilters Quilt Show in July and Jacksonville Celebrates The Arts in August. Jacksonville is home to the Britt Festival, a seasonal music festival that takes place at an open-air amphitheater. The site was selected in 1963 because of the acoustic qualities of the surrounding hills. This small town was named for Jackson Creek, which runs through the community and was the site of one of the first placer gold claims in the area. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
