This small town is the county seat of Bedford County and has an abundance of historic dwellings. The Espy House was once the headquarters of George Washington; the Fraser Tavern first opened in 1758. President James Buchanan had his summer White House in Bedford. The famous Lincoln Highway (now Route 30) goes through Bedford. Raystown Lake is located an hour north of Bedford. With 110 miles of shoreline and 8,300 acres of water, this is the largest manmade lake in Pennsylvania. Bedford is only minutes off I-76 in western Pennsylvania. |
