Lynchburg, Tennessee

Where else can you find a town in which all the trash receptacles are old Jack Daniels Whiskey barrels? A charming town square surrounds the 100-year-old courthouse. Life moves at a slower pace in Lynchburg – precisely why the town only has one stoplight. Although Lynchburg is the home of Jack Daniel's Distillery, the county is dry. Moore County is the home of Motlow State Community College with an enrollment of 4,000. Consistent with its distillery heritage, Lynchburg hosts the annual Jack Daniels Barbeque, a motorcycle rally, and Whiskey Runners Cruisin the Hollow antique car show. Thomas Roundtree was the original proprietor of the lands on which Lynchburg was founded. In 1818, he surveyed the town. Near his home grew a beech tree that served as a lynching post. He fittingly named the town Lynchburg. |
