Rogersville, Tennessee
Rogersville it the second oldest town in Tennessee, settled by the grandparents of Davy Crockett. Tennessee's oldest courthouse, first newspaper, and first post office are each located in Rogersville. Much of the town is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. History abounds in this small town. Tennessee's oldest continuously-operated inn is the Hale Springs Inn, built in 1824. One of the first lodges of Free and Accepted Masons in Tennessee was organized in Rogersville on December 14, 1805. Established in 1786, the Rogersville Fire Department is the second-oldest fire department in Tennessee, and one of the oldest active fire departments in the United States. The town hosts several festivals, including Shakespeare and Friends Renaissance Faire in June, Heritage Days in October and the Rogersville Holiday Festival around Christmas. Rogersville is named after Joseph Rogers (1764-1833) who founded the town.
