Fayetteville, Texas
(pronounced fay-ut-ville)
The Chamber of Commerce bills Fayetteville as 'the way Texas used to be'. True to its claim, this small town is authentic to its age, with an historic precinct courthouse in the center of a horseshoe-shaped commercial district. Across the street is a well-preserved 1927 brick Gulf gas station, complete with period gas pumps. The Texas Pickin' Park's Annual Bluegrass Festival & Grand Jam is held monthly during summer months on the courthouse square. The Fayetteville Area Heritage Museum is on the west side of the Square. It occupies two historic buildings and displays many artifacts that played an important role in the town’s development. This small town is compact enough so that visitors can easily walk the entire perimeter of buildings around the central courthouse. Fayetteville is located at the convergence of Routes 159, 955 and 1291, about 30 miles north of I-10 in southeast Texas.
