Fredericksburg is the most popular town for visitors to the Texas Hill Country. It has an abundance of bed and breakfast lodging, a variety of quality restaurants and boutiques, museums and other entertainment. It offers the most shopping for a small town in the central Texas Hill Country. The surrounding countryside is also accurate as to 'Hill Country' topography, with pastoral rolling hills vegetated by native oaks. Fredericksburg has two museums devoted to World War II. The National Museum of the Pacific War honors the men and women who served in that conflict. The much larger George Bush Gallery is two blocks away. Just east of town on Route 290 is Wildseed Farms, a popular destination for gardening enthusiasts. The nearby hamlet of Luckenbach was made famous in the song by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Fredericksburg is the county seat of Gillespie County. It was founded in 1846 and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
