Granbury, Texas
Granbury has the most attractive downtown square of any small town I have seen in Texas - and I've seen a bunch. Many of the buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts Broadway productions. The damming of the Brazos River in 1969 formed Lake Granbury, a long, narrow lake which flows through the city. Excursions of the lake are available on the 2-story Granbury Riverboat. Granbury can be found on Highway 377, about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
