Round Top, Texas
|
|
Round Top is the smallest of the Texas towns we recommend, but twice a year, the population swells considerably as a result of the April and October Round Top Antiques Fair. With an estimated 10,000 vendors, this is one of the largest antique events in the U.S. Antiques are displayed in Round Top and surrounding towns and pastures. Since 1946, Royers Round Top Café has built a reputation for scrumptious pies. The Round Top Festival Institute is an international renowned music institute for young musicians and faculty. In the early 1840s Alwin H. Soergel, author, historian, and musician, settled in the Round Top area, bringing with him the beginnings of the Germanic traditions that characterize the area. He built a white house with an octagonal tower, which in 1847 became the town’s post office. The odd-shaped tower gave rise to the name Round Top. |
