The hill country around San Antonio has an abundance of small charming towns. Smithville is one of them. It is known as an antique shopper’s paradise and is located along the banks of the Colorado River. Riverbend Park has a pier on the river where fishing is allowed. A popular riding area for bicyclists can be found on the park roads of Buescher State Park, located one mile north of Hwy 71 on FM 153. Those who prefer more of a challenge look to Rocky Hill Ranch, three miles north of Smithville on FM 153. There are more than 30 miles of mountain biking trails on more than 1,000 acres. For the historically-minded, this small town offers the Railroad Museum & Restored Depot and the Smithville Heritage Museum. The Smithville Jamboree is held each March. Smithville can be found on Highway 71, 40 miles southeast of Austin. |
