(pronounced whim-burr-lee)

Wimberley, referred to as The Belle on the Blanco, lies in a valley blessed with an abundance of water provided by Cypress Creek and the Blanco River. During the summer, residents and visitors can take advantage of the many local swimming holes such as Blue Hole. Wimberley is known for its monthly (March-December) Market Days, a large outdoor crafts and wares market held the first Saturday of each month. Due to its location on the Edwards Plateau, Wimberley is in the Central Flyway for migrating birds and offers birding opportunities for patient observers. The Monarch butterfly also migrates over Wimberley each spring and fall. In 2003, Wimberley was designated one of America's Ten Best Small Towns by Travel Holiday Magazine. In 1848, a grist mill was built on Cypress Creek. It was sold again in 1874 to Pleasant Wimberley and this was the origin of the name of this small town. |
