Manti is the county seat of Sanpete County. This small town was founded in 1850 by Mormon leader Brigham Young. The Manti Temple is one of the first built by the Mormons. The city is also the headquarters of a polygamist offshoot of the mainstream LDS Church, the True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days. Manti annually hosts the two-week long Mormon Miracle Pageant, one of the city's greatest sources of revenue. The two-week pageant typically draws an average of 15,000 people per night over an eight-night performance. Brigham Young named the site "Manti" in the summer of 1850, at the request of the local patriarch Isaac Morley. The name was derived from that section of the "Book of Mormon" called Alma. While in Manti, visit the nearby interesting village of Spring City.  Photos of Spring City are available on this website.
