Leavenworth has a scenic location - it is surrounded by the Wenatchee National Forest and the Wenatchee River flows near downtown. Small mountains provide a backdrop for the town. All commercial buildings in the downtown district are architected in the Bavarian style. Leavenworth attracts a large number of tourists due to its beautiful location and the abundance of retail shops and restaurants in its downtown. If you can’t find a cuisine in downtown to satisfy your palette, your taste buds must be comatose. The Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Leavenworth's annual Oktoberfest celebration claims to be one of the most attended in the world outside Munich, Germany. The surrounding Wenatchee National Forest and nearby Alpine Lakes Wilderness and Glacier Peak Wilderness areas provide four-season playgrounds for adventurists and explorers. This small town is named after Captain Charles Leavenworth, president of the Okanogan Investment Company, who in 1892 purchased the land in the present-day downtown. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
