Ritzville, Washington
|
|
Ritzville is conveniently located just off I-90 between Moses Lake and Spokane in eastern Washington. It appears as an oasis in the midst of wheat fields for miles in every direction and is the county seat for Adams County. This small town has a pastoral setting and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers is located here. In 1990, downtown Ritzville was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. This commercial district includes the Carnegie Library, the art deco Ritz movie theatre, 2 blocks of charming brick storefronts and a restored train station. The swimming pool in the town park on the eastern side of town provides summertime refreshment. The first settler in what would become Ritzville was William McKay in 1880. The town would be named after Philip Ritz, who had settled in the area two years earlier. |
