Cedarburg, Wisconsin
|
|
For a small town of this population size, Cedarburg contains as many stone buildings as we have encountered in this country. The town is noted for its historical allure and prides itself on preserving more than 230 century-old stone and brick buildings in two historic districts. The community has several parks and strives to preserve green space, even in the downtown area. The town thrives on tourism. Scenic Cedar Creek parallels its main thoroughfare. Five dams and mills were built along this waterway. They were originally constructed for commerce but now provide for the delight of tourists. Both the 1856 5-story Cedarburg Mill and the Hilgen and Wittenberg Woolen Mill are recognized by the National Registry of Historic Places. Cedarburg was voted #1 in the 2008 Wonders of Wisconsin for best small town shopping and architectural detail. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. |
