Lake Geneva is a resort town located on Geneva Lake. Because of its proximity southwest of Milwaukee, and northwest of Chicago, it is a popular tourist destination from both cities. The lake and town were originally named after the town of Geneva, New York, located on Seneca Lake, to which early settler John Brink saw a resemblance. The city is also known today as "The Hamptons of the Midwest". Cruise lines offer narration and meal tours of this 8 square mile lake. The Lake Geneva Wine Festival, held in September, showcases nationally recognized vintners and chefs. Held every August for 5 days, the Venetian Festival features a carnival, craft fair, water ski show, musical entertainment, local cuisine, and the festival's traditional lighted boat parade followed by a firework display high above Geneva Lake. EARNS OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
