Mazomanie, Wisconsin
(pronounced may-zoh-MAY-nee)

I have walked the sidewalks and streets of thousands of small towns in the United States and Mazomanie is one of my favorites. Not because of any particular noteworthy feature or structure in the town, nor because of impressive surrounding scenery or body of water that runs through town, because there is none. The attraction of this small town is its simplicity, cleanness and consistency of quality architecture. There is something comforting in a town so small that, even without the best of eyesight, you can stand at one end of town and easily see the other end of the commercial district. It is only one block long and one block wide, shaped in a symmetric T, as if inviting visitors to experience its Tranquility or Timelessness of character. |
